So you love performing?

Well, they do say life is a stage. Want to take your love of performance further, but think you have to go to the North Island to further your career? Wrong. Dunedin is the arts capital of NZ - we embrace it! So why not learn and practice your craft in a city that really supports what you want to do?

The Anita Cumming School of Drama and Performance has opened in Dunedin. Anita is a professional actor and qualified teacher with years of experience working on screen both locally and nationally, as well as in film, radio and theatre - and she has decided to share her experience and knowledge with you.

Develop different techniques, gain drama skills, gain confidence and knowledge about the industry all in a supportive, non-threatening, fun environment.

Classes are available for all ages, from 5 years to adult.

Lights, camera and action! Take 2010!

Wow! What a great year 2009 was for drama. Some may say that 2009 was a bit of an act! We finished the year off with... cheese rolls and meat pies. Long story - Father Christmas didn't want any more fruit cake and was in hiding. However the day was saved and it was cheese rolls and meat pies all round... just for Santa (yes, that was our combined classes’ end of year performance theme)!  The students overwhelmed me with their achievements, as did parents, who turned up in droves to a packed theatre, and I thank them for their ongoing support. It was a pleasure to see students grow in ability and confidence over the term, with some students already gaining paid acting work over the holidays! Yes, professionals ALREADY, let's hope it doesn’t go to their heads. With many more opportunities in 2010, it is set to be another exciting year.

Speaking of which, this year I will be running the same classes, from 5 years of age through to adult classes, with a smaller advanced class for school-aged students to develop more improvisation skills and character work in a more intense and focused way, with opportunities for public performance. Also available is one on one tuition, and look out for Fun With Dance classes beginning during the year.

All classes are limited in numbers, so that students are able to gain as much as they can from the hour. Once again, during each term we will work toward a performance. Spaces are filling up, so to ensure your place please contact me ASAP.

I am also able for life coaching, so please contact me for more details on that!

Mark Casson (http://www.actup.co.nz) will also be writing plays for us once again – his expertise as a professional playwright provides us with international-quality when it comes to the scripts that we work with.

Myself? Well this year is a busy one, and what other way would I have it? Of course I will be teaching all of the drama classes here, but I will also be lecturing in drama at the University of Otago’s Teachers College, and tutoring the Stotts Cengage Education Film Appreciation course. I will also be involved in the Playhouse Theatre’s productions once again (with a little bit of acting thrown in for good measure).

So with that said and done, I wish you a great year. Remember, life is a stage, so act on it!

That's a wrap people!
